Manufacturers:
Manufacturers in the simulation operate plants, which supply the
simulation distribution channel.
A Manufacturing-Only-Firm is restricted to sales to other
firms participating in the simulation. They do not sell to the simulated
retail market. They may sell to firms in the Advanced Simulation,
as well as to firms in the Introduction to Business Simulation.
Manufacturers will encounter production and operation challenges.
Manufacturing-Only-Firms depend 100% on Business-to-Business, real-time,
real-people, web-based contact to sell their products. Commanding
a positive Web presence and providing high quality service is critical
to success.
Manufactures make heavy investments in fixed plant and equipment,
which creates a relatively high break-even point. Competition is
keen as manufacturers negotiate contracts in chat rooms, bulletin
boards or direct e-mail. While plants can be downsized or sold,
the ability to adjust to sharp seasonal fluctuations and/or longer
term shifts in demand can create challenges. Manufacturers generally
need sufficient runs for longer-term strategies to play out.
